AIKEN, SC; July 1 - Assistant Secretary for Environmental Management Jessie H. Roberson recently announced the designation of Jeffrey M. Allison as Acting Manager for the Department of Energy (DOE) Savannah River Operations Office (SR).
Mr. Allison is a career member of the Senior Executive Service with over 19 years of experience in engineering, safety, health, process development, and management of DOE nuclear facilities, including chemical processing facilities, waste management facilities, and laboratories. Prior to his new assignment, Mr. Allison served as the DOE-SR Assistant Manager for Health, Safety and Technical Support. In this position, he led the Site in implementing a model Integrated Safety Management System, while directing and overseeing Site efforts in a range of areas including: engineering, construction and project management, regulatory and safety compliance, nuclear safety documentation, and emergency preparedness.
Mr. Allison has held several other senior level positions at the Savannah River Site, including Acting Assistant Manager for High-Level Waste. In this position, he directed and oversaw operations of the high-level waste system, including the Defense Waste Processing Facility, H and F Tank Farms, the Effluent Treatment Facility, Saltstone, and other components of the high-level waste system.
Mr. Allison began his federal service in the Department's High-Level Waste Division, Office of Environmental Management, DOE-Headquarters, in December 1991.
Prior to joining DOE, Mr. Allison worked eight years for Westinghouse Hanford Company in a range of engineering assignments, including process simulation, process design/development, systems engineering, design engineering and hazardous waste disposal.
Mr. Allison holds a Bachelor of Science, Engineering degree in Chemical Engineering from Princeton University.
Former DOE-SR Manager Greg Rudy was recently appointed Associate Administrator for Facilities and Operations for the National Nuclear Security Administration in Washington, DC.
