On May 8, media representatives are invited to observe the first shipment of transuranic, or TRU, waste leave the Savannah Rive Site (SRS) for the Waste Isolation Plant (WIPP), located in Carlsbad, NM. A truck, loaded with the TRUPACT-II shipping containers, will pass through the Site’s Jackson Barricade (Barricade #1) en route to I-20 at about 12:15 p.m.

Media representatives planning to view the departure of this first shipment of TRU waste on May 8 should call Michael Milnes, WSRC Public Affairs, (803) 725-2854, no later than 4 p.m. today.
